This has been a busy term already here at Hoo St Werburgh Primary School and we cannot believe we have just two weeks left before half-term.

Children returned from their summer break full of energy and ready to learn and they have once again blown us away with their desire to get back to learning and having fun.

Our children have been engaging with their Term 1 Learning Journeys, so during this term we have had visitors from the sunken Titanic visit our school, our Year 6 pupils travelled to Hogwarts and visited Harry Potter World, our Year 2 children will be visiting Rochester Castle and Cathedral before the end of term and our Year 1 children have been for a walk around the local area.

As usual, learning has been creative and relevant to the children. Our Forest School provision has grown so the children have even more space to learn vital character building skills outside (luckily the weather has not been too bad, although we have seen quite a lot of mud!) and we have once again heard the sound of music lessons around our corridors as visitors are now allowed back into school.

For the first time, our school is now able to provide children and their families with our own in-house counsellor as we have launched “Hoo Cares”. We are delighted that Dawn Hamblett, who has offered so many of our children and families support over the years, is now employed directly by the school and will continue to provide an outstanding counselling service which is vital at anytime but even more so because of the events of the past 18 months.

Another first for our school was achieved in recent weeks with the launch of the “Hoo After School Crew” club. This new club offers after school childcare up until 5.45pm and has been a great success already. We are looking to extend this provision in the future so that even more families can benefit from this service. With our Morning Club offering, it does mean that here at Hoo we are now offering parents extended provision.

After school sports clubs have started again, and it is wonderful to hear children having fun and learning new skills after school. From term 2, we will be offering more after-school clubs which will be aimed at developing different skills amongst our children including cooking, computer skills, knitting and exploring a range of different games- more details coming soon of the various options open to the children. Musical instrument tuition will also start again and we will be having a demonstration of various musical instruments in the coming weeks to give children a taste of the type of instruments they will be able to start to learn.

We are looking forward to welcoming parents back into school for parent consultations in the final week of Term 1 and it will be great to discuss children’s progress face-to-face for the first time in a long time. 

We are already looking forward to Christmas! This year, we are hoping to provide a range of Christmas activities for our children as well as welcome parents back into school to see some festive performance…more details to follow as soon as possible!
